for they say that the course of human life resembles the letter y, because every one of men,

when he has reached the threshold of youth,

and has arrived at the place “where the way divides itself into two parts”

is in doubt, and hesitates, and does not know which side to turn

The second installment in the Ghosts Never Die series takes place ten years before the journey the Wanderer embarked upon in the pages of 29 Palms: An American Odyssey for True Love.

In The Bridge Between Two Rivers, you will sink into the long night and meet the voice within the shadows that whisper; the long, dead, and dreaded “Man in the Hat.” At the beginning upon the Wanderer’s return to the Y-Bridge City, he seeks a conference with his darker half to settle things between the two of them once and for all, but the friction persists.

It’s a story fraught with struggle. From mischief to madness, the “Man in the Hat” coaxes him closer towards the abyss at every turn. All is nearly lost until the Wanderer is driven back to the bridge, where it doesn’t matter which way you’re going there’s still two ways that you can turn.

words from the author

The Bridge Between Two Rivers was definitely a challenge to write. It was hard to lift myself back up after the misery that followed the failure of my first book. I fell into a dark hole of sorts, a void you could say. in that place i had to face a lot, but within the dark i discovered many truths; including more than one about myself.

The story in the Bridge Between Two Rivers is all about facing the darker half, the shadow within one’s self for a reason. It’s a battle that we all face within ourselves on a daily basis. some of us lie forever at the crossroads and that is why i think the y bridge is the perfect symbol for that struggle. on top of that, zanesville needs something. i think the people would like a story that they can really relate to. so why not a coming of age tale that takes place in the town?

I hope it’s a good idea. the best i could do was frame the story around a few experiences i had before i ran away thirteen years ago. i wasn’t a popular guy back then—still not in fact, but that’s my own fault. i don’t talk to people enough.

A lot of discord was sewn in my life during the writing of this book that added to the struggle. Some sort of strange phenomena was on the prowl, and I almost gave up on this book altogether. Only I knew the story needed to be told. Not for me, but for my town.

Zanesville isn’t much, and it’s not as prominent as it used to be that’s a fact, but it has a unique spirit. All the places I visited while I was on the road they didn't have the same—I’m not sure how to put it. It’s like there’s something forgotten that rests in the place; a deep yearning if you will. There’s so many stories that the land, the streets, have to tell, and The Bridge Between Two Rivers is one of them.

It’s a story about choices, and how your decisions affect your life and those around you. We are all a unique mix and measure of good and evil. We come to the crossroads time and time again throughout our lives. It is the pillar of the universe; the constant battle between the two.
